Brave new freeware world
If you asked what the most popular apps on thriftmac were, the answer would be easy: Quinn, Adium and Quicksilver. And I’m sure the answer would be the same on many of the other Mac freeware sites out there.
But what if we were to enter an alternative Mac freeware universe? You can sorta do that by visiting a site aptly named Macfreeware.fr. Note the .fr. That means we’ve entered the world of freeware as chosen by and for French-speaking people.
It’s nicely organized, but one of the things I find most interesting is the most downloaded (les plus téléchargés) section. The top three are Fluid (a screensaver), iStumbler (a wireless network finder), and Chopper (a game). I know iStumbler has grown in popularity lately, but I would never have guessed the other two.
If you speak French, or don’t mind, ahem, stumbling through it, there’s plenty more to discover. Be sure to check out the top rated (les mieux notés) apps.
