Firefox 3 RC 1
Mozilla Links reviews the first release candidate for Firefox. The much-loved web browser has now reached a point in the development cycle where features are pretty much frozen, but it is not quite ready for prime time.
If the features are indeed frozen, we Mac users could be in trouble, because it doesn’t take long to come across this sentence: “So far it is only available for Windows.” The reference is to an optimization of the internal workings that improves Firefox’s performance. It seems unbelievable that a major feature would only be available for one platform at the release-candidate stage. This is all the more disheartening because the Mac version is in desperate need of a performance boost. If this feature is omitted in the the final release, there will be many Mac users who will be disappointed to say the least.
But let’s not get too obsessed with this one item. There are plenty of other highlights, and the review goes deep on all of them.
