OpenOffice inches toward aqua
For anyone thinking of using OpenOffice as a free alternative to the Beast’s offering, but put off by the need to run it on X11, there is good news: efforts to port the app to run natively on OS X are well underway. The porting team has announced a third “snapshot,” which is a sort of pre-beta version not really suitable for anything other than a sneak peek. But at least it shows progress. Of course, NeoOffice has long been available as an OpenOffice port, but there seems to be a political divide that keeps the teams from working together.
