  1. Oracle bought Sun, including OpenOffice. Developers who had worked on OpenOffice for a long time felt Oracle was too controlling, so they started LibreOffice. It’s being improved at a faster pace than OpenOffice.

  3. Well, Jordan is right, OpenOffice.org (now as an incubator project at Apache OpenOffice) has not had a significant update in years, apart from being much ‘heavier’ then LibreOffice

    I think LibreOffice should be your preferred choice.
