Seven games for smarties
Computer games are sometimes criticized for being too impulsive. For example, if you lose you can quickly start over again. If you don’t know the rules, you can flounder until you get it. In other words, not much structured thinking is required.
That may be true of some games, but there are many others that require strategy and forethought. We found seven of them, and put them in thriftmac’s games section. They’re all Mac freeware, of course, and they all require brain power.
Here’s the list:
The Battle for Wesnoth: A turn-based strategy game.
Latrunculi: An ancient Roman board game.
Freeciv: A free version of Civilization.
Bricksmith: A way to create Lego models.
BZFlag: A multiplayer 3D tank game.
Enigma: A mind-bending search for Oxyd stones.
GLTron: A futuristic race based on the movie TRON.
Check these and many others in the games section. The sheer number of free games has become overwhelming, so don’t forget we have a popup menu on the side that divides them into categories. Also, for your convenience, they’re in alphabetical order.
