Snakes enter third dimension
If you enjoy playing Snake Quest, you’ll love—or possibly hate—a new version of this old classic called snake3d.
With Snake Quest, you guide a snake through a grid-like playing area. As you gobble various items, your snake grows longer. The longer you get, the harder it is to avoid bumping into yourself and losing a life. It sounds simple, but can be quite tricky once you get beyond the first few simple levels.
snake3d adds a third dimension to the playing area. Not only does your snake go up, down, left and right, but also toward you and away from you. Plus, there are three other snakes to compete with. These other snakes are run by the game’s artificial intelligence, or you can go to network play against other humans.
The toughest part of snake3d is getting the hang of which keys do what. For example, left is 4, down is 2, right is 6, up is 8, forward is 9, backward is 3. And you don’t have a lot of time to stop and think about it. Not only that but there are other sets of keys for board rotation, game play, movement from the snake’s view, the overall view, and a miscellany of others.
The developer has a to do list that includes, “Find a way to make it easier to control the snake.” Please do!
Truly, this is a game for those who have mastered Snake Quest and want something more challenging. The rest of us probably won’t want to run the risk of having our heads explode as we wildly search our keyboard for the right button to push.
