Suggestion: SmallDVD

From the suggestion box:

Here’s a great piece of freeware I use all the time. It’s called SmallDVD, and you can find it here. I’ve been capturing old video and needed an app that would allow me to create DVDs for academic purposes. SmallDVD allows you to load your own static background menu, load your mpeg encoded video, position your buttons, and SmallDVD does the rest. I love this app.

  1. iDVD? What’s the difference?

  2. The main differences between SmallDVD and iDVD are:
    (1) iDVD has beautiful menu templates; SmallDVD does not.
    (2) iDVD insists on recoding whatever video you throw at it; SmallDVD does not. It was originally designed for MPEG2 file (typically recorded from DVB) and leaves them as they are without recoding. Although more recent versions can also take video in other formats and do the encoding to your requirements.

Needless to say, (2) is the main advantage of SmallDVD!
