TVShows
We were having some problems watching a TV show we taped with the VCR, so I decided to try downloading a torrent as backup. That’s when I came across TVShows, a program that specializes in downloading the TV shows that you subscribe to. The way it works is quite simple. You just fire it up and — from a huge list of programs — choose your subscriptions. Then quit. TVShows does the rest, working in the background. An extra optional step is choosing which torrent program, such as Transmission, you want to use for downloading the show.
I tried it out for The Amazing Race on Sunday. After the show was over, I turned on my Mac and found the torrent for the very same show waiting to be placed in Transmission for download. I can’t say that it will work this well every time, but TVShows certainly made a good first impression.
My only beef so far is that the program doesn’t indicate which programs you’ve subsribed to, other than making them disappear from the list. This could get confusing if you subscribed to a dozen or so, and couldn’t remember which they were. The good news is that the developer promises that version 1.0 (it’s currently at 0.3.4) is coming out soon “with great new features.” This is one to keep an eye on.
